In order to store your awning for icy winter months in Hampton Roads, first keep your awning retracted. If you also have a hanging valance on your retractable awning, remove the valance. To remove your hanging valance slide it out from the front bar of the awning. Store your valance in a well-ventilated area until you are ready for usage in the spring. Never store awning elements, such as the hanging valance, in plastic. Storing in plastic can trap moisture and cause mildew and mold on your awning material. Do ensure that where you store your awning valance is out of reach to wintering rodents such as squirrels and mice who could cause damage to your awning.
